Students learn creative thinking and effective communication through the art of storytelling

Gurugram: The School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (SHSL) at SGT University organised an interactive workshop for students of Humanities, Liberal Arts, Mass Communication, Psychology and Forensic Sciences. The workshop was themed “Storytelling: A Tool for Engaging Audiences and Enhancing Creative Thinking.”

The workshop aimed to familiarise students with the art of storytelling as an effective means of communication, self-expression, collaboration and creativity, while also helping them develop the ability to connect with audiences.

Designed to be highly participative and practical, the workshop enabled students to understand storytelling not merely as a literary or entertainment medium, but as a powerful tool for effective communication and creative expression. Through a range of engaging activities and hands-on exercises, students learned important techniques such as developing characters and plots, structuring stories effectively, using voice and facial expressions, and establishing stronger connections with audiences.

The workshop was conducted by Ms. Seema Vahi Mukherjee, a globally acclaimed storyteller, National Icon Award winner and storytelling coach. Through her interactive and experiential approach, she encouraged students to participate actively in the sessions. Through various activities, she motivated them to experiment with their imagination, overcome inhibitions and embrace storytelling as an effective medium of communication and creative expression.

The highlight of the workshop was the creation and presentation of original stories by the students. Through this activity, students experienced the process of working collaboratively, thinking creatively and transforming their ideas into impactful narratives.

The workshop reflected the university’s commitment to providing students with experiential and multidisciplinary learning opportunities alongside classroom education. Such programmes help students develop not only academic knowledge but also practical, communication and interpersonal skills essential for their professional and personal lives.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Shammi Nagpal, Dean, SHSL, and Dr. Shweta Tiwari, Associate Dean, SHSL. Students participated enthusiastically in the programme and actively engaged in various activities and storytelling presentations.
